Questions Asked
Question:  What is the cost of the class and supplies?
Answer:  There is no cost to take the Eastern Nebraska CERT Basic Class.

Question:  Must I attend all sessions?
Answer:  Yes, to become certified to respond in an disaster you must successfully complete all units of instruction.

Question:  How long is the class?
Answer:  The class runs for a total of 20 hours offered in several different formats to accommodate students' schedules.

Question:  I have a physical condition which limits my ability to lift or bend. Can I still take the class?
Answer:  Yes, you can simply observe those activities which you believe you should not participate in.

Question:  I cannot attend all classes in the same session as offered. What are my options?
Answer:  You should wait until you can attend all classes in the same session. The instructional units are presented in an order to maintain the highest level of safety, and attempting skills without previous knowledge would be unwise.

Question:  If I wish to continue with my disaster training, what are the options if any and the cost?
Answer:  Monthly Team Training is offered to gain skills beyond the Basic Class. There is no cost to attend the Team Training offerings.

Question:  Other members of my family are also interested in taking the class. Can we take the class together as a group?
Answer:  You are encouraged to bring a buddy as CERT members respond only with a buddy.

Question:  Who authorizes and funds this course?
Answer:  Eastern Nebraska CERT is funded by both Federal and State grants. The curriculum is written by the Department of Homeland Security and modified for local jurisdictional requirements. The Omaha Fire Department oversees the operation and staff.

Question:  If I were to get together a large group, would CERT present the class at an off-site location?
Answer:  Special classes such as for churches, social groups, or businesses are presented often. Contact the Program Manager for possible special non-scheduled classes.

Question:  Is there a minimum number of registered students required to hold a class? If not achievable, would this cause a class to be cancelled?
Answer:  Yes, a minimum number of students is required by our grant manager in order to hold a class.
